Floriano Priori Pediatric Simulation Center

Thanks to the generous donation of Fondazione Prossimo Mio, Buzzi Children’s Hospital has inaugurated the first Pediatric and Obstetric Simulation Center in Northern Italy—an innovative facility designed to strengthen the training of doctors, nurses, and residents. .

Here, healthcare professionals can practice in lifelike conditions using state-of-the-art tools:

Task trainers and procedural simulators to master advanced pediatric and neonatal procedures, such as intubations and venous access.

High-fidelity simulators that reproduce heartbeat, breathing, and vital signs, allowing teams to manage complex emergencies like cardiac arrest, anaphylactic shock, severe sepsis, or acute respiratory failure.

Virtual reality scenarios to train anesthesiologists, pediatricians, surgeons, and obstetricians in multidisciplinary clinical cases.

Standardized patients (advanced mannequins and actors) representing children or mothers in critical conditions, helping trainees build both technical and communication skills.

Thanks to these technologies, healthcare teams learn to face life-threatening situations safely—such as choking, drowning, neonatal emergencies at birth, and obstetric complications (Buzzi registers over 3,500 births every year). Post-simulation debriefing sessions ensure in-depth analysis, sharpening intervention strategies and preventing future risks.

The impact is tangible: better trained professionals, quicker decisions, safer care. And the value goes beyond Buzzi itself: the Simulation Center will share its expertise with other hospitals, strengthening the pediatric healthcare network across Northern Italy.

With this donation, Fondazione Prossimo Mio has enabled a true leap forward—one that means, quite simply, more lives saved.
